Emmanuel EmenikeNFF receives letter of retirement from striker
The NFF revealed that they received a letter from Emmanuel Emenike confirming his resignation from the Super Eagles
The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) have confirmed that they have received the letter of retirement from Emmanuel Emenike.
The Fenerbahce striker –on-loan at Al Ain of Dubai- took to his Instagram on Tuesday, October 21, 2015 to announce his resignation from the Super Eagles.
“After
five great years, I am happy to announce that I have put a full stop to
my national team career for the sake of national peace,” part of the striker’s statement read on Instagram.
After his announcement, the NFF revealed that they have not received any letter from the striker to make his resignation official.
“The NFF has yet
to receive any official notification of retirement from Emenike. He
didn’t inform us about his decision before going to the social media to
announce it,” spokesman for the NFF, Ademola Olajire, told a Punch correspondent.
Emenike
has however remedied the situation by sending the letter of his
resignation to the NFF which the football boy confirmed on Thursday,
October 22.
NFF President, Amaju Pinnick revealed this during an interview on Brila FM while accusing the striker of being disrespectful by announcing it on Instagram first.
“It
was only yesterday that I got a letter notifying me officially that he
(Emenike) wants to retire from international football,” Pinnick said.
“Before going to
announce on the social media, I think it would have been more
appropriate and more respectful to write the federation.
“It was quite disrespectful that he went to the social media to announce his retirement.
“Emenike
contributed immensely to the Eagles. He was the highest goal scorer at
the Africa Cup of Nations that we won. His contributions are legendary
and we wanted to accord him the kind of privilege and farewell that he
deserves. Now that he has gone, what do we do?”
