In Somalia Christmas, New Year festivities banned due to terror fears All events related to Christmas and New Year celebrations are contrary to Islamic culture.   The Somalian Government has banned Christmas and New Year festivities in its Muslim majority country due to fears that they might attack attack from Islamic terrorists. Hajj Stampede Update NAHCON says 280 Pilgrims died, 43 still missing Mohammed described the 2015 Hajj as the most eventful in the history of Hajj operations in Nigeria.   The National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON), in a report submitted to the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Babachir Lawal, by its  chairman, Abdullahi Mohammed, revealed that 280 Pilgrims died in the Hajj stampede, while 43 are still missing. The NAHCON chairman described the 2015 Hajj as the most eventful in the history of Hajj operations in Nigeria. Aisha Buhari First Lady donates food to IDPs in Maiduguri Aisha said she would continue to assist IDPs by donating food and other essential items to reduce their suffering.   The Wife of the President, Mrs Aisha Buhari, has donated food to Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) at Dalori Camp in Maiduguri where more than 21,000 victims of insurgency are living. The president’s wife made the donation at Dolari Camp in Maiduguri on Wednesday. She said the Federal Government had been making effort to end insurgency soon so that they could relocate to their various homes. Aisha said she would continue to assist IDPs by donating food and other essential items to reduce their suffering. The donated foods are rice, semovita, cooking oil, seasonings, plastic, milk, juice, among others. Wife of the Borno Governor, Hajiya Nana Shettima, said the visit of Mrs Buhari had given the state a sense of belonging.

In Akwa Ibom Court unseats Governor Udom, orders fresh elections in all 31 LGAs Udom’s election victory had been initially challenged by opponent and All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Umana Okon Umana at the state election petitions tribunal.     The Court of Appeal has nullified the victory of Akwa Ibom State Governor, Emmanuel Udom in the April 11 elections. The Appeal Court reached the decision today, December 17, 2015, in Abuja. In delivering its judgment, the court held that the election violated the Electoral Act. It subsequently ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to conduct rerun elections within 90 days. The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), reports that Kanu, who is also the Director of the Pro-Biafra pirate radio, has been in detention for 90 days. Mr Vincent Obeta , counsel to Kanu had approached the court to grant his client bail.
