  1. Return bearing gifts: No trip to the village is complete without a sufficient amount of items for family members in the village. This can range from provisions to clothing items, and ofcourse money.
  2. Visit family members: The hallmark of the village trip is the reunion of families, and while some family members live within ear shot, many others are often spread in other hamlets. Returnees therefore take out time to visit said family members across the village.

Attend an igba nkwu ceremony: Igba nkwu ceremonies, otherwise known as traditional wedding, is a common occurrence during the yuletide season as many often fix their ceremonies at this time because of the mass return of family members.
  4. Go to watch mmanwu: Mmanwu, which means masquerade display is a tradition which used to be hugely popular in the east during the yuletide season. Though the increasing influence of Christianity has led to the stoppage of this practice in several communities, it is still an attraction in other areas especially in Anambra state.
  5. Eat ofe akwu: No gathering is complete without ofe akwu (palm kernel sauce) and a taste of this delicacy is something every Igbo person looks forward to.
