90% of corps members redeployed to schools in Sokoto State - Official.
'' You should work assiduously in redressing these problems for Nigeria to prosper to greater heights.''
The National Youths Service Corps
(NYSC) in Sokoto State had deployed 90 per cent of the 1,830 corps
members posted to there under the 2016, Batch '' A'', Stream II, to
schools.
Its State Coordinator, Mr Thomas Yamma, said this on Wednesday at the closing ceremony of the orientation for them held at the permanent orientation camp in Wamakko.
Yamma said the decision was to help in ensuring the successful resuscitation of the falling standard of education in the state.
He said that the state government recently declared a state of emergency in its education sector.
''
It is also in line with the robust rural development policy of the
state government aimed at boosting its socio-economic development.''
Yamma
urged the corps members to initiate projects and activities that would
help in addressing the myriad of challenges in their host communities.
The coordinator also called on them to respect the cultures, religions and ways of life of their host communities.
Yamma commended Gov. Aminu Tambuwal
of Sokoto State, the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa'ad Abubakar III and
the people of the state for their sustained support to the scheme.
Gov.
Aminu Tambuwal, represented by the Commissioner for Youths and Sports
Development, Alhaji Musa Ausa, challenged the corps members to strive to
be agents of change.
Tambuwal said: ''The
country is now being bogged down by several oddities that include
corruption, nepotism, religious intolerance and violent acts.
'' You should work assiduously in redressing these problems for Nigeria to prosper to greater heights.''
The governor warned employers of labour against rejecting the corps members, assuring them that they would be good ambassadors.
He said that the state had no case of violence against any corps member in the history of the state.
The
chairman of the state NYSC governing board, Alhaji Abubakar Ladan,
stated that adequate arrangements had been made to ensure the welfare
and security of the corps members.
