137,295 results withheld as May/June batch is released
The West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) body
has announce that the results of 137,295 candidates have been withheld
due to examination malpractice.
The results of 137,295 candidates who sat for the
May/June 2016 West African Senior School Certificate Examination
(WASSCE), have been withheld as the results were released on Friday,
August 5, 2016.
The examinations body made the announcement during a briefing on Friday, following the release of the results.
The
said number of candidates whose results have been withheld, reportedly
represent 8.89% of the overall number of candidates who sat for the
exams.
Mr Olu Adenipekun, the
Head of Nigeria National Office, Nigeria, disclosed to reporters during
the briefing that the results were withheld in connection to several
cases of examination malpractice.
He added:
"The
cases are being investigated and reports of the investigations will be
presented to the appropriate committee of the Council in due course for
consideration.”
Mr Adenipekun also revealed
that the total number of candidates who sat for the May/June examination
totaled 1,552,758. He said that 1,370,049 candidates, representing
88.72% of the grand total scored credit and above in three subjects,
while 1,438,679 candidates, representing 93.16%, scored credit and above
in two 2 subjects.
